We recently took a trip to Mexico as a graduation present for my oldest son. The four of us, my husband, my son, his girlfriend, and I, stayed in Riviera Maya at the Barcelo Palace resort. While there, I found myself so inspired to share some of the highlights from our stay. But more than that, what stood out most to me were all the ways this place feels made for families with kids.
Although this trip was just the four of us, my husband and I kept saying the same thing: We have to come back here with our younger kids. The resort is beautiful and welcoming for adult travelers, but it’s also overflowing with kid-friendly amenities that make it one of the most family-focused destinations we’ve experienced.
We’ve stayed in Riviera Maya several times, and also enjoyed time in Playa del Carmen and Playa Mujeres. Each place has something unique to offer, but this was the first time we felt genuinely excited to return specifically for a family-style trip
Here’s why.
The pool area features a fantastic water playground, along with other kid-friendly zones scattered across the many pools on site, it’s truly a dream for younger travelers. The all-you-can-eat buffet was one of the best we’ve had, and even included a special kids’ section with its own little buffet line. It was adorable and practical.
Beyond the food and pools, the Barcelo Palace has a kids’ club, shops, a game area, mini golf, and so much more. And what’s even better is that the resort is connected to several other sister resorts within the Barcelo property. You can easily walk or take a shuttle to the others, unlocking even more activities and dining options. The convenience of the shuttle service makes exploring easy, especially helpful for little legs that tire quickly.
And the list doesn’t stop there. You’ll also find a mini mall, a bowling alley/sports club, a skating area, a wave rider, a night club, and even a dolphin aquatic center where you can pay to swim with dolphins. The experiences really do feel endless.
Why This Trip Stood Out
This trip was a special one for us, and while it was a celebration for our graduate, it also sparked something more, a desire to return with the whole family and create new memories together. As parents, we’re always on the lookout for destinations that blend relaxation, fun, and convenience. Barcelo Palace hits every one of those marks and then some.
